Blog reactions to the Guild Wars 2 Manifesto gameplay trailer
You definitely need to watch this new Guild Wars 2 Manifesto video chock full of gameplay footage and meaty developer chat.
My favorite quote from the video is: "If you love MMOs, you'll want to check out Guild Wars 2. If you hate MMOs, you'll really want to check out Guild Wars 2."
That line sums up what I think ArenaNet is trying to accomplish with GW2. They want to create an experience made up of everything that was great from GW1 as well as other titles in the MMORPG genre, while leaving out all the bad stuff like boring level grinds and static, unchanging game worlds.
Here's how some prominent MMO bloggers are reacting to the video:
"First, if you haven’t seen this new gem from ArenaNet then feast on it in as high a def as you can muster. It’s an updated video version of their earlier manifesto newly born for the upcoming games conventions."

"Cool stuff mentioned, right? Who wouldn’t want all that in a MMO? Decisions from one player having lasting effects and all that diverse gameplay and all those events happening around you. But is all of that supposed to be happening in the… open… world? I don't think so."

"It’s what they’re saying as much as it is what they’re showing. We’ve heard promises about no more grinding and the player matters and the quests aren’t boring a whole bunch of times in the run up to a whole bunch of games, and it’s never quite come to pass. Thing is: the ArenaNet guys in this video seem fantastically resolute about it. Almost trembling with righteous fury at times."
